Bill Ferguson single-handedly prevented Maryland from answering Trump’s assault on democracy by preventing redistricting efforts championed by the Democratic Caucus of the U.S. Congress, the Maryland State Senate, and Governor Wes Moore.
Ferguson killed redistricting, despite it passing the House of Delegates 99 to 37, with unanimous support from the people of Baltimore.
Ferguson’s cowardice in the face of Trump’s power grab threw him into the national spotlight with articles like “Meet The Most Hated Democrat In America” in The Bulwark and Politico.

Maryland Senator Arthur Ellis stated “(Bill Ferguson) is a traitor to the Democratic Party. We cannot sit back and continue to do nothing in Maryland.”
Bobby LaPin is a Democrat who isn’t afraid to fight for Maryland. He will not cave to bullies in D.C. or in Maryland. As State Senator, Bobby will introduce the Maryland Citizen Initiative Act, defending our state and our country from attacks against our democracy.

Ferguson blocked Baltimore’s 2025 property tax relief plan, rejected the Fair Share Act that would have made large corporations pay their fair share to close Maryland deficit, and argued to restrict Baltimore’s Inspector General watchdog power to audit the city’s financial records.
Ferguson supports implementing a 3% tax on Baltimore restaurants to fund a $1 billion dollar convention center renovation, endangering the survival of locally owned restaurants.
Following the money, we find that Ferguson is one of the largest recipients of lobbyist money in the State Senate. Last year, Ferguson held a $25,000-per-ticket dinner at a ranch in Colorado, attended by BGE and Washington Gas representatives.
Bobby LaPin doesn’t take any money from corporations or PACs. His campaign is fueled by 3,000 individual donors, an average of $31.44.
Ferguson has less than 300 individual donors, with an average of $820.00!
As Senator Paul Wellstone said “if Politicians didn’t have something to sell, they wouldn’t be for sale.”

Ferguson protected tax breaks for Data Centers that shift costs to our utility bills. Food & Water Watch called the legislation he passed "nothing more than a shameless giveaway to Big tech and energy companies that build AI data centers in Maryland”.
Data Centers in Maryland sucked up over 2 billion gallons of water last year, increasing 63% annually on top of Maryland seeing a 40% increase in job losses caused by AI displacement.
While Maryland residents are seeing monthly increases of all their energy bills, Ferguson accepted thousands of dollars from Washington Gas and BGE’s political PAC, taking over a million dollars from corporate PACs.
Ferguson recently succumbed to public pressure, but his “too little too late” reversal came only after Data Centers got everything they wanted from Maryland.
Bobby LaPin will stop the AI giveaway. Using his sizable social media platform, Bobby sounded the alarm on how Data Centers would steal our water and increase our bills.
As State Senator, Bobby will end unregulated data center expansion, freeze utility rates from increasing on Maryland families, ban energy shutoffs for seniors, and reform state oversight committees with consumer advocates instead of industry insiders.

Ferguson killed the Maryland Values Act which would have prevented our local police from collaborating with Trump’s ICE operations. In fact, Ferguson killed the Maryland Values Act TWICE!
The immigrant rights organization CASA stated “During a time when Trump’s ICE machine is cruelly abducting and disappearing immigrants…(Ferguson) flat-out refused to pass the Values Act, the most important immigrant rights bill in recent Maryland history.”
CASA stated in April that Ferguson didn’t just walk away from the Maryland Values Act, he “walked away from thousands of Maryland families.” Maryland residents with over 200 organizations, including the ACLU and CASA, had to launch a high pressure campaign on Ferguson to do the right thing for Maryland families, forcing him to flip-flop on the issue.
Bobby LaPin doesn’t need pressure campaigns to know that helping ICE terrorize Baltimore residents is wrong.
Bobby LaPin will forward legislation to prevent Trump-recruited federal agents taking over Maryland law enforcement.
No family should live in fear of a knock at the door from Trump.

Ferguson let eviction protections die in committee without a vote, despite it overwhelmingly passing in the House of Delegates. More than 5,000 Marylanders were evicted last year — and those are just the residents who made it to court.
While just cause eviction was under consideration in the State Senate, Ferguson accepted over $70,000 from real estate developers and their PACs.
Bobby LaPin will always put people over corporations. As State Senator, Bobby will fight to keep Baltimore families housed by passing a statewide rent cap, stop unfair arbitrary evictions, and take on the corporate landlords. Neighbors care about neighbors.

Since 2022, as State Senate President, Ferguson did not advance Reproductive Freedom for the women of Maryland, letting it die without being brought to the Senate floor, saying it “wasn’t necessary”.
It was long after the Supreme Court overturned Roe vs. Wade that Maryland codified Reproductive Freedom into the State Constitution in 2025.
When Flip-Flop Ferguson tried to take credit for his “too little too late” reversal, a local activist answered “stop taking a victory lap when you were the road block”.
As a former firefighter, Bobby LaPin knows the best way to put out a fire is to prevent a fire from starting in the first place. Bobby is proudly endorsed by Reproductive Justice Maryland. As State Senator, Bobby won’t block common sense legislation to protect the women of Maryland from extremists wanting to dictate their life choices.
